Impact of nanoparticle size and lattice oxygen on water oxidation on NiFeO_xH_y

The reason for the high water-oxidation activity of Ni(Fe)O_xH_y catalysts in alkaline electrolyte is not yet well understood. Now, Chorkendorff and co-workers report that oxygen evolution is limited to the near-surface region by measuring the activity trends of mass-selected NiFe nanoparticles.

A Fe-NC electrocatalyst boosted by trace bromide ions with high performance in proton exchange membrane fuel cells

Replacing expensive and rare platinum with metal–nitrogen–carbon catalysts in proton exchange membrane fuel cells is limited by their lower activity and stability for oxygen reduction reactions. The authors report Fe-N-C catalyst with trace Br ions to enhance Fe-N4 density and introduce defects and mesopores, achieving high activity for oxygen reduction reaction in proton exchange membrane fuel cell.

Interleukin (IL-)11 is a signaling protein that plays key roles in several human diseases. Here the authors describe structures of IL-11 in complex with its receptors and determine the molecular mechanisms through which a variant of IL-11 inhibits signalling, opening avenues for therapeutic development.
