Radiosensitising agents can enhance radiotherapy and improve outcomes. Here, the authors report on the design of bioinspired Radiosensitising and biocatalytic nanoparticles to increase radiation tiggered cell death and immunogenic response to combat both primary and metastatic tumours.

Quantum phase synchronization via exciton-vibrational energy dissipation sustains long-lived coherence in photosynthetic antennas

Photosynthesis in biological systems occurs in a noisy environment that reduces the lifetime of coherences in the excitation energy transfer. Here the author demonstrate that long-lasting coherences are protected by quantum phase synchronization, realized in dimers by exciton-vibrational coupling where energy dissipation occurs predominantly in resonant anti-symmetric collective modes.

Fully gapped topological surface states in Bi₂Se₃ films induced by a d-wave high-temperature superconductor

By growing a topological insulator on top of a high-temperature superconducting substrate it is possible to induce superconductivity in the surface states of the topological insulator. Moreover, the pairing symmetry of the induced superconductivity is s-wave, unlike the d-wave symmetry of the substrate.

Observation of magnetic adatom-induced Majorana vortex and its hybridization with field-induced Majorana vortex in an iron-based superconductor

Braiding Majorana modes is essential for topological quantum computing, but it remains difficult to find a suitable platform. Here, the authors report the evidence of hybridization between field-induced and magnetic adatom induced Majorana modes in an iron-based superconductor FeTe_0.55Se_0.45, providing a possible single-material platform for braiding Majorana modes.

Half-integer level shift of vortex bound states in an iron-based superconductor

The authors use STM to show that there are two different classes of zero-bias peak in vortex cores of Fe(Te,Se). One class is topological, one not. These are distinguished by a shift in the energy levels of the excited states.

Anatomical localization, gene expression profiling and functional characterization of adult human neck brown fat

Brown adipose tissue (BAT) burns, rather than stores, energy and has thus been explored as a way to combat obesity. Aaron Cypess and his colleagues isolate neck fat from adult humans and show that BAT exists in this region, define its anatomical localization in the neck relative to white adipose tissue and demonstrate that it is functional.
