A non-canonical function of telomerase RNA in the regulation of developmental myelopoiesis in zebrafish

The telomerase reverse transcriptase promotes the development of haematopoietic cells in zebrafish independent of its telomere-lengthening activity. Here Alcaraz-Pérez et al.show that the telomerase RNA component regulates cell fate during zebrafish myelopoiesis also in a non-canonical manner.

Blood stem cell-forming haemogenic endothelium in zebrafish derives from arterial endothelium

HSCs emerge from haemogenic endothelium (HE) in the dorsal aorta but whether these tissues share a common lineage is unclear. Here, the authors use a zebrafish runx1 reporter to show that HE maintains an arterial gene expression profile in the absence of Runx1, suggesting the aortic endothelium as a precursor of HE.

A tissue-scale gradient of hydrogen peroxide mediates rapid wound detection in zebrafish

In animals, within minutes of wounding, leukocytes are recruited to the site of injury across distances of hundreds of micrometres. Early leukocyte recruitment after injury is now shown to be driven by the establishment of an H₂O₂ gradient from the epithelium to the vasculature in zebrafish.

Immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have dramatically improved the survival of patients with certain forms of cancer; however, these agents also have adverse effects that are often quite different to those of more traditional cancer therapies. In this Review, the authors describe the epidemiology, treatment and management of the various immune-related adverse events that can occur in patients receiving ICIs.
