Synthesis of single-crystalline sp²-carbon-linked covalent organic frameworks through imine-to-olefin transformation

Olefin-linked covalent organic frameworks are materials with potential application as organic semiconductors, but their synthesis remains challenging. Now, single-crystal sp²-carbon-linked covalent organic frameworks have been prepared through an imine-to-olefin transformation strategy; the resulting materials feature enhanced room-temperature metal-free ferromagnetism.

Six new loci associated with body mass index highlight a neuronal influence on body weight regulation

Joel Hirschhorn and colleagues report results of a large-scale genome-wide association and replication study for obesity-related traits. The newly discovered loci are enriched for genes expressed in the central nervous system, and may thus contribute to weight gain by modulating food intake. Similar results are reported in a related study by Gudmar Thorleifsson and colleagues.

The synthesis of crystalline two-dimensional conjugated polymers linked by C = C bonds is highly desirable for applications ranging from membranes to electronics. In this study, the authors present a strategy for producing crystalline two-dimensional conjugated polymers films with tunable thickness and large lateral dimensions, enabling stable and efficient ion-selective transport.
