Genome-wide association study of lung adenocarcinoma in East Asia and comparison with a European population

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have improved our understanding of the genetic basis of lung adenocarcinoma but known susceptibility variants explain only a small fraction of the familial risk. Here, the authors perform a two-stage GWAS and report 12 novel genetic loci associated with lung adenocarcinoma in East Asians.

Enhanced HSP70 lysine methylation promotes proliferation of cancer cells through activation of Aurora kinase B

HSP70 is a molecular chaperone that aids protein folding. In this study, HSP70 is shown to be methylated and this post-translationally modified protein is elevated in expression in human cancers and promotes the activity of Aurora kinase B.

The jasmonate-responsive GTR1 transporter is required for gibberellin-mediated stamen development in Arabidopsis

GTR1 is known to transport glucosinolates in Arabidopsis. Here, Saito et al. show that GTR1 also transports the plant hormones jasmonate and gibberellin when heterologously expressed in Xenopus oocytes, and that gtr1mutant plants show a gibberellin-related fertility phenotype.
