A sophisticated mechanism governs Pol ζ activity in response to replication stress

DNA polymerase ζ (Pol ζ) maintains continuity but impairs accuracy during DNA replication. Here, the authors report a mechanism by which human cells precisely control the essential, yet mutagenic, activity of Pol ζ to ensure both continuation and fidelity during DNA replication challenges.

Albumin tailoring fluorescence and photothermal conversion effect of near-infrared-II fluorophore with aggregation-induced emission characteristics

There is a balance between the fluorescence and photothermal properties of fluorescent molecules. Here, the authors report on an NIR-II fluorophore which binds with human serum albumin changing the equilibrium, increasing the photothermal efficiency, and demonstrate application of this for tumour ablation.

A gap-protected zero-Hall effect state in the quantum limit of the non-symmorphic metal KHgSb

Zero Hall effect is found in the quantum limit of KHgSb. This observation is attributed to counter-propagating double quantum spin Hall states.

The nature of active sites for carbon dioxide electroreduction over oxide-derived copper catalysts

The active sites over oxide-derived copper (OD-Cu) catalysts for CO₂ electroreduction are unclear. Here, the authors show atom-level product-specific active sites on OD-Cu surface models, where planar and convex square sites are responsible for ethylene while the step square site favours alcohols generation.
