Parametric excitation and squeezing in a many-body spinor condensate

Ultracold atomic gases with collisional interactions allow the exploration of quantum many-body physics. Here, the authors vary over time the contributions to the interaction energy to coherently control the spin state of an atomic Bose gas, thereby implementing a truly many-body control scheme.

Non-equilibrium dynamics of an unstable quantum pendulum explored in a spin-1 Bose–Einstein condensate

Theoretical models usually fail in describing the behaviour of a many-body quantum system at a hyperbolic fixed point—a point of unstable equilibrium analogous to a motionless inverted pendulum. Gerving et al.show that such behaviour can be explored in the non-equilibrium dynamics of a Bose condensate.

Spin-nematic squeezed vacuum in a quantum gas

Squeezed states—which permit precision beyond the scope of Heisenberg’s uncertainty relation—are well established for spin-1/2 particles. Now an elegant demonstration of squeezing in spin-1 condensates generalizes the criteria for squeezed states to higher spin dimensions.
