Targeting CD38 immunometabolic checkpoint improves metabolic fitness and cognition in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease

Maladaptive immunity negatively impacts Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Here, the authors show dysfunctional CD38-expressing CD4⁺ T cells in individuals with familial AD before symptom onset. Targeting CD38 in an AD mouse model restored metabolic fitness, improved cognition, and modified meningeal immunity.

N-acetylneuraminic acid links immune exhaustion and accelerated memory deficit in diet-induced obese Alzheimer’s disease mouse model

Obesity and aging increase Alzheimer’s disease (AD) risk. Here, using an AD mouse model and high-fat diet, we suggest that immune exhaustion links the two risk factors, and identify a metabolite that can hasten immune dysfunction and memory deficit.

Identification of senescent, TREM2-expressing microglia in aging and Alzheimer’s disease model mouse brain

Neuroinflammation and microglia significantly contribute to Alzheimer’s disease pathology, depending on their activation state. We found that TREM2-expressing microglia are a heterogenous population spanning activated to senescent cells.
