The roles of plasmin in the salt-sensitive hypertension and podocyte injury. Plasmin leaked from injured glomeruli activates ENaC and causes podocyte injury, leading to hypertension and glomerular sclerosis. The synthetic plasmin inhibitor YO-2 suppresses these detrimental changes. On the other side, TA neither inhibited urinary plasmin activity nor alleviated hypertension or proteinuria. ENaC epithelial sodium channel, PAR-1 protease-activated receptor-1, uPA urokinase-type plasminogen activator, TA tranexamic acid.
