Scalable synthesis of Cu-cluster catalysts via spark ablation for the electrochemical conversion of CO₂ to acetaldehyde

Acetaldehyde is a petrochemically sourced base chemical used in the production of drugs, fragrances and dyes. Now acetaldehyde can be produced selectively using a Cu-cluster electrocatalyst, electricity, CO₂ and water. Guided by a high-throughput in silico screening process, spark ablation enables the production of a high-performing Cu-cluster electrocatalyst with a precise number of atoms.
