A New Biological Stain for General Purposes

Abstract

IT was accidentally discovered while dissecting small Crustacea under spirit on a background of black velvet, that a dye dissolved very slightly in spirit and stained the chitin a distinct green. This observation was communicated to the Dyestuffs Group of Imperial Chemical Industrfes, Ltd., who succeeded, after investigation, in supplying a suitable dye in the Chlorazol series, which on further experiment was found to act as a very useful general biological stain.
