Abstract
MURAKAWA1 has recently published a more extended multiplet classification of the lines of the first spark spectrum of iodine, which differs in a number of respects from that given by Lacroute2, and used by me in analysing the hyperfine structures. The line multiplets which have been arranged are in both cases similar, but the term allocations differ. Since, however, Murakawa retains almost all the J values found by Lacroute, the hyperfine structure analysis is only affected in the very few cases where the proposed J values are not in agreement.
