Electrical Breakdown Strength of Air at Ultra High-Frequencies

Abstract

DIFFICULTIES in producing sufficient voltage to break down air gaps at ultra high-frequency have led recent investigators1,2 to use pulsed magnetrons in order to obtain the high peak voltages that are required. The accuracy of the measurement of the electric stress which is obtained at breakdown in these circumstances must depend on a number of factors, including pulse width, shape and repetition-rate.
