Effect on the Embryo of Staleness of the Sperm at the Time of Fertilization in the Domestic Hen

Abstract

IT is a well-known fact that the domestic hen is capable of yielding fertile eggs for a considerable period after mating and isolation. Interest has centred around the incidence of fertility after different periods of isolation and the viability of the embryos obtained. A high incidence of mortality during the early stages of development has been recorded ; but little or no attention has been given to the cause of this mortality.
