A New Photometric Technique using a Variable Shutter Device

Abstract

THE present standard of accuracy in spectrophotometric measurement is unsatisfactory, partly because of the limitations of conventional techniques. In the measurement of spectral transmission of coloured filters, for example, the precision obtainable from commercially available instruments is limited to ± 1/103 of full-scale reading, while the accuracy depends, inter alia, on the linearity of a detector-amplifier system or an attentuator-comb. This is found to be inadequate and an alternative approach to the problem is suggested.
