Abstract
A NUMBER of bioassays have been described for the detection of the gibberellins A1 to A9, particularly for gibberellic acid. Almost every assay so far reported for gibberellic acid is of the type which utilizes shoot growth in intact normal, or more often dwarf, species of plants. There is thus a need for alternative gibberellin bioassays utilizing other physiological responses. This communication demonstrates that the germination response induced in embryos of A. fatua L. treated with gibberellic acid provides an extremely sensitive and rapid micro-test for the acid.
