Congenital Abnormalities and Competition in Man and Other Mammals at Different Maternal Ages

Abstract

IN man and other mammals, maternal age has been shown to affect the incidence of various abnormal conditions. In man the incidence of still births, mongolism, central placenta prævia, congenital malformations of the nervous system, and cleft lip and palate, all have been shown to increase in frequency with maternal age1–6.
