Abstract
THE rate of evaporation from small, moist surfaces can be estimated with the following formula1:
where E is the water evaporated/unit of surface/unit of time, p0 is the vapour pressure at the evaporating surface, Pd is the vapour pressure of the ambient air, v is the velocity of the wind, x is the length of the evaporating surface in the direction of the wind, and n is an exponent expressing the rate of change of thickness of the boundary layer with a change in v or x or both.
