Chromosome Aberrations during Normal Epithelial Proliferation

Abstract

EARLIER investigations1 have shown that a spectacular cellular proliferation occurs in the epithelium of the mouse Müllerian vaginal anlage and in the uterine cervix during approximately the first week after birth. This proliferation is paralleled by a cellular degeneration2. It has been suggested that the latter phenomenon is caused, at least in part, by a degeneration of cells with abnormal mitoses which appear during the proliferation3.
