Abstract
MacLeod and Donnelly have discussed possible causes of the failure of a programme to eradicate the sheep blowfly Lucilia sericata from Holy Island, Northumberland, by releasing sterile males1. They concluded that either sterilization had been inadequate or the sterile males used could not prevent native females from becoming inseminated by native males.
