Abstract

SILVER'S contribution is in part a reply to an earlier one of mine and seems to be inspired by the fear that toxic wastes might immediately be dumped onto trench sediments. I do not, of course, suggest any such rash approach. Nevertheless, if liquefaction of sediments by earthquakes occurs, it would undoubtedly lend itself to waste disposal and this alone justifies some effort in looking for it.
