Abstract
WE propose here that the Crab nebula was produced by the explosion of a helium star in a close binary already containing a neutron star. This explosion would be caused by a complete spiralling of the neutron star into the helium star, which was totally disrupted1. The neutron star would be spun up in the process and be identified with PSR0532.
