The observed distribution of reproductive success among sampled males in the local caecum, and the expected distribution under the null hypothesis of a random (Poisson) allocation. The mean (±s.d.) number of males achieving a given number of units of reproductive success (measured in paternities (a) and copulations (b)) was estimated from 1000 Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) samples. The statistics I and Is are standardized variances in reproductive success (95% credible interval (CI)) as defined by Boness et al. (1993) and Wade and Arnold (1980), respectively.
