The effect of diabetes mellitus on mRNA levels of angiotensin II type 1 receptor. (a) The mRNA levels of angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R) in the five groups at 17 weeks of age. DM synergistically activated the cardiac renin–angiotensin system (RAS), as evaluated by the ratio of AT1R/GAPDH, when superimposed on hypertension. The cardiac AT1R expression was significantly suppressed by olmesartan. (b) There was a significant positive correlation between the mRNA levels of cardiac AT1R and τ from rats in the control, HT, DM and untreated HT+DM groups. Results are expressed as mean±s.d. *P<0.05, **P<0.01 vs. Control; ##P<0.01 vs. HT+DM.
