Representative results of pathological staining, and plots of nephrosclerosis scores. (a) Results of periodic acid-Schiff and immunofluorescence staining. Aliskiren significantly reduced renal fibrosis in chronic ischemic kidneys. In the normal control mice, only minimal kidney fibrosis and collagen I staining (score: 0) are noted. Experimental mice without aliskiren treatment are associated with marked collagen I staining (score: 5+). Experimental mice with aliskiren treatment are associated with a reduction in the collagen I staining (score: 2+). (b) Plots of nephrosclerosis scores. The nephrosclerosis scores of normal control and ischemic kidneys with and without aliskiren treatment were 0.5±0.2, 4.5±0.2 and 7.3±0.4, respectively (*P<0.05).
