From: Thy-1 interaction with Fas in lipid rafts regulates fibroblast apoptosis and lung injury resolution
The model of Thy-1-mediated apoptosis pathway induced by FasL. Stimulated Thy-1 increases in the activation of caspase-8, -3, and -9 followed by PARP activation. The action of caspase-9 activation is likely to be independent of caspase-8- and 3-mediated apoptotic pathway as indicated in the figure. Caspase-8 inhibition can reduce caspase-9 activation mediated by FasL but not by staurosporine, indicating that the anti-apoptotic proteins, such as Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL, are involved. The expression of Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL is decreased Thy-1(+) cells. Decreased levels of Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL will induce activation of the mitochondrial pathway.
