Effective reduction on plasma soluble CD14 (sCD14) concentration after administration of short chain galactooligosaccharides/long chain fructooligosaccharides/pectin hydrolysate-derived acidic oligosaccharides (scGOS/lcFOS/pAOS). Evaluation of sCD14 plasma levels at baseline and after 4, 12, and 16 weeks of prebiotic intervention. The analysis of sCD14 levels in plasma showed that patients treated with 15 g day–1 had significantly lower levels after 4 and 12 weeks of treatment compared with placebo group and significantly lower levels after 12 weeks compared with patients treated with 30 g day–1.
