Closing wounds usually requires the use of sutures or staples, which is often problematic for soft and elastic tissues, such as the lung. Ali Khademhosseini and colleagues have developed an elastic hydrogel-based wound sealant that can be injected into soft tissue to close wounds and provide support for tissue repair, as they report in Science Translational Medicine.

We developed a hydrogel material based on a naturally occurring protein, elastin, to be able to generate a glue that is both elastic and adhesive
