Extended Data Table 3 Basin and glacier gross inputs and losses

From: Asia’s glaciers are a regionally important buffer against drought

  1. Modelled (SWAT) mean summer (July–September) evaporation totals (in mm) for upper river basins (zone 3) and their glaciers, and the fraction of total (modified APHRODITE) precipitation and glacier inputs this represents (in %). Upper Aral precipitation losses of more than 100% result from high evaporation rates and NCEP-CFSR precipitation exceeding the rescaled AHRODITE precipitation, interpreted here to imply that summer evaporation is approximately equal to summer precipitation.
