Abstract
THE secondary response of spleen cells of mice immunized with hapten-protein conjugates can be inhibited if the spleen cells are incubated with rabbit serum to mouse immunoglobulin before stimulation by hapten-protein conjugate1. These findings, together with evidence2–4 for the presence of immunoglobulin on the surface of lymphocytes, have fostered the hypothesis of the immune receptor as an antibody-like molecule at the cell membrane of lymphocytes.
