On the Mechanism of the Glitches in the Crab Nebula Pulsar

Abstract

New observations of the wisps in the Crab Nebula show further examples of activity connected with sudden changes in the rotation rate of the pulsar. The evidence leads to a model of the “glitches” in which plasma is released explosively from the closed magneto-sphere of the neutron star.
