Abstract
Polymer catalyst, iron phthalocyanine-wrapping poly(peptide), has been tested as a catalyst for the electroreduction of dioxygen and hydrogen peroxide by means of rotating ring-disk electrode (RRDE). The catalytic activity of disk electrode coated with polymer catalyst toward O2 and H2O2 significantly depended on the pH. Between pH 3 and 13 at negative potentials, O2 was reduced to H2O2 via a two-electron-reduction pathway, and the resultant H2O2 was partially reduced to H2O. Kinetic analysis showed that iron phthalocyanine-wrapping poly(peptide) catalyzed the reduction of H2O2 at lower rate than it catalyzed the reduction of O2.
