Abstract
Speculation: This study shows that during the early neonatal period the fuel consumption and the energy production is relatively low. This could be related to a slow operating Kreb's cycle. This, in turn, could be a protective mechanism of the organs that allows them to get through the hypoxic phase of birth without damage and explains the greater resistance of the newborn to hypoxia.
