Objective- Despite the widespread use of surfactant, long term data on outcome to discharge are scarce. We therefore designed a prospective study to evaluate health and developmental outcomes in neonates with RDS routinely treated with NPS and followed-up until the age of 4 years.

Design- Prospective cohort study setting in 33 French level III neonatal intensive care units.
