Role of Endogeneous Nitric Oxide (NO) in Arterial Blood Pressure (ABP) Regulation in Preterm Neonates

Low ABP-values in very preterm neonates during the first week of life are not only related to persistent ductus arteriosus (PDA) or decreased cardiac output, but also to low peripheral vascular resistance (Arch Dis Child 1997;35:F34). We hypothesized that endogeneous vasodilatory NO-production may be involved in ABP regulation in these infants.
