Binding of β2AR agonists (A), such as clenbuterol, to the receptor induces the dissociation of heterotrimeric G-proteins, leading to receptor phosphorylation and β-arrestin binding. Although the precise molecular mechanism underlying the reduction in H3K27 acetylation after clenbuterol treatment remains unknown, it has been observed that this reduction ultimately leads to a reduction in SNCA gene expression.
