Very low birth weight infants (VLBWIs) enrolled in the present study. Among 16,870 VLBWIs who were born during 2003–2012, 15,471 (91.7%) were registered as survivors of the neonatal period. After discharge from hospital, 128 (0.8%) died by age 3 years. Medication records or other data for epilepsy were inaccessible for 6912 (40.9%) VLBWIs and these were excluded. A total of 8431 VLBWIs were registered as eligible for the present study
