Abstract: In the sentence “Fewer hospitals reported that “most” mothers expressed milk within one hour of birth (37%)…” the percentage should be 38%.
Table 1: In the Government/military row of the Hospital type section:
-
the percent for “advised to provide human milk” should be 95.2 instead of 99.2
-
the percent for “advised to breastfeed or express ≥ 8 times every 24h” should be 96.0 instead of 100
-
the percent for “begin expressing milk within one hour of birth” should be 36.0 instead of 37.5
-
the percent for “kangaroo care practiced for eligible newborns” should be 60.0 instead of 62.5
Table 1: In the Total row, the percent for “begin expressing milk within one hour of birth” should be 37.9 instead of 37.4
Table 2: In the Level III row of the “Percent of infants receiving their mother's own milk while in the advanced neonatal care unit” section the percentage under the “Most” category should be 53.1 instead of 44.4.
Table 2, footnote c: “Total does not sum to 1197 because hospital type is missing for 1 hospital”, should be changed to: “Total does not sum to 1197 because donor milk information is missing for 1 Level III hospital.”
Results: “A larger proportion of hospitals with Level II ANCUs reported that “most” infants received mother's own milk (53%) compared to those with Level III or Level IV ANCUs (44 and 49%, respectively).”This sentence should be revised to read: “A larger proportion of hospitals with Level II and Level III ANCUs reported that “most” infants received mother's own milk (53% and 53%, respectively) compared to those with Level IV ANCUs (49%).”
Discussion: The n should be 32, instead of 36 in the sentence “Furthermore, Level III units accounted for 64% (n = 36; data not shown) of hospitals with 5000 or more annual live births.”
Discussion: “Although receipt of donor milk for “most” infants was higher among hospitals with Levels III and IV units, receipt of mother’s own milk for “most” infants was lower among hospitals with Levels III and IV units, when compared to Level II units.” This sentence should be revised to read: “Although receipt of donor milk for “most” infants was higher among hospitals with Levels III and IV units, receipt of mother’s own milk for “most” infants was lower among hospitals with Level IV units, when compared to Levels II and III units.”
Figure 1 displays a map of the “Proportion of hospitals with advanced neonatal care units reporting that “most” (≥80%) infants receive their own mother’s milk while in the unit, by state, mPINC 2022.”

On this map,
-
The proportion for Washington should be 60 (12/20) instead of 57 (12/21) and the category color should be one shade darker to correctly reflect the 60–79% range (instead of the 40–59% range).
-
The proportion for Illinois should be 59 (35/59) instead of 58 (35/60). The 40%–59% range and category color stay the same.
