PD protects against mitochondria-dependent apoptosis by upregulation of Parkin-dependent mitophagy in acute lung injury. PD treatment activates Parkin-mediated mitophagy, which inhibits LPS-induced upregulation of Bax protein, downregulation of Bcl-2 protein, cytochrome c release and caspase-3 activation; ultimately reduces apoptosis and lung injury
