a, b, Meta-analytically derived panic disorder-related brain activity (a) was spatially related to (b) developmental and evolutionary brain expansion. c, Contextualizing this source map with respect to a normative map of oxygen metabolism, we found that areas with the greatest disorder-related increase in activity feature the lowest metabolic rate of oxygen. d, Querying the Neurosynth database delinated significant similarities between a given ontological term’s functional activity patterns and the meta-analytically derived increased brain activity maps of panic disorder (red/blue = positive/negative correlation, range = [−0.2, 0.2]).
