Taxa were grouped into free-living, facultative, obligate–transitional (>0.7 Mbp), obligate (<0.7 Mbp), and tiny–obligate (<0.2 Mbp) genome categories. Adelgid symbionts are shown in red text. Free-living and facultative bacteria related to adelgid symbionts were chosen for comparison.
