To perform well as a dentist and to meet your targets you rely on good quality equipment in the dental practice. Working with old or faulty equipment is not only stressful for you but also not an efficient use of your time. So, what can you do to help prevent issues arising with equipment failure?
To reduce the risk of working with regular equipment breakdowns you need to ask the right questions at the interview stage, before accepting the role. As an associate you will pay a licence fee each month to the practice owner and part of that licence fee is for the use of efficient equipment allowing you to perform as a dentist. The practice owner should have in place contracts with maintenance companies that keep regular checks on dental equipment. At the interview you should ask questions about the state of dental equipment in the practice. How old is the equipment? When was it last repaired? Does the owner have maintenance contracts in place? How long does the owner usually take to deal with equipment repairs? Equally, you can ask to see the equipment in person and make a judgment on condition. If there are other associates working, and you feel comfortable you can speak to them about the state of dental equipment and efficiency. Unless it's your first post qualification position, you will have an idea of what equipment works well and what is not so good.
