Pros and cons of a 'Golden Handshake'

A 'Golden Handshake', sometimes known as a 'Golden Hello', is essentially a signing on bonus used by dental corporates and practice owners to entice associate dentists to take up roles within their practice. This bonus is usually in the form of a large, single cash payment that the dentist will receive on joining. Golden Handshakes are becoming increasingly common together with promises of higher UDA rates and relocation packages to attract dentists to positions, particularly in hard-to-fill parts of the country.

These bonuses have recently soared in value. A quick review of BDJ Jobs online revealed ads placed in June 2023 included roles with a Golden Handshake up to £15,000. This reflects how far practices will go to fill vacant positions.
