Ever since I can remember, my brain has been hardwired to go for every opportunity presented to me. I did not attend a grammar or private school, instead I went to a state school in a not-so-great area. This never discouraged me; it only fuelled my passion to make myself and my family proud. I vividly remember stepping into Year 7 as an eager student desiring to impress the teachers with constant contributions in class, going above and beyond in my assignments. I shortly realised that not everyone at school liked that about me, and nicknamed me ‘Extra chewing gum' - emphasis on the extra. It's okay, you can laugh; I definitely do now. Year 7 Kiran was discouraged by this, but I soon realised being ‘extra' was what was going to help me pursue what I wanted to do in life. Although she never knew it then, this was dentistry.
A dentist embodies the roles of a doctor, engineer, teacher, and an artist all at once. Before deciding on dentistry, I explored many potential careers. Until Year 9, I was convinced I was destined to become a headteacher.
