If you had a choice between glossy printed issues of Hello, Grazia or BDJ Team while waiting at the hairdresser, I'm sure you would choose the third in that list [if we had a printed version]. BDJ Team July is bursting at its virtual seams with photogenic dental care professionals (DCPs) sharing their career stories and lives with us. Forget wasting paper, you can still enjoy all of these (always free to read) on your smartphone or tablet. And our interviewees and guest writers (and their family and friends) can also print a lovely copy of the PDF to frame for the wall.
As I mentioned in my June editorial, social media has brought forward some highly ambitious and involved dental professionals dedicated to their work in dentistry. The first of those this month is Sakina Syed, a dually qualified dental hygienist and therapist, writer and researcher.
I bumped into engineer Chris Rogers at the Birmingham NEC earlier this year and he was keen to share the story of how he and his wife Nida, an endodontist, bought a one-surgery dental practice in Solihull under two years ago and have since expanded it to five surgeries.
Orthodontic therapy is a challenging niche to move into; Chrystal Sharp tells us how she did it and about the upcoming live course she will be launching with her dentist colleague. Look out for a new orthodontic therapy column by Chrystal starting in BDJ Team in the autumn.
Amy Louise Scarbro creates highly entertaining reels for Instagram, but behind the scenes she helps patients with their dental phobias, and shares her strategies with us. Meanwhile dental therapist Gemma empowers her patients to ‘boss their own oral health'!
I am honoured to include Fiona Ellwood BEM in our series of interviews to celebrate BDJ Team's ten-year anniversary. We had an in-depth conversation about the many facets of her career and the ‘wonderful journey' of her life is a fascinating long-read this month.
We also introduce a newly refreshed series of CPD articles from First Aid for Life, kicking off this month with ‘Anaphylactic shock and acute allergic reaction'. If you're short of CPD hours, do visit the CPD Hub to top up.
