I'd like to say I'm writing this editorial from my deckchair in Spain but truth be told, it's been cold, cloudy and damp since we got here and I'm actually perched on the bed with a jumper on (I hear the UK is lovely!). It's still good to get away with the family for the Easter holidays, of course - and once this issue of BDJ Team is wrapped up we will have the chocolatey delights of a long Easter weekend to enjoy.

This issue of BDJ Team is a bit like a box of [Easter] chocolates, ahem, as usual (only much more tooth-friendly) - with an egg-lectic assortment of articles. Our reader panellist Stephanie Boothroyd deciphers the foundations of dentistry with a brilliant diagram for other practice managers and the whole oral healthcare team. Chrystal Sharp is on-trend with a dive into the use of AI in orthodontics from her perspective as an orthodontic therapist. My regular contributor CDS (CIC) describe how CDS dental nurses work to their full potential for enhanced patient care and professional satisfaction. We catch a glimpse of our cover star Annette's life as a dental hygienist in Edinburgh - and Canadian team member Dee's, who is based at Shiraz Endo in Solihull.

For essential medical emergencies advice, read Emma Hammett's update on syncope and seizures: what dental professionals need to know. You can then visit the CPD Hub to complete one hour of CPD.

Cheryl Goodenough reminds us in her article that ‘you can't pour from an empty cup', ie, you must put time aside to look after yourself in the fast-paced world of dentistry. Cheryl sets out some helpful strategies for achieving balance and wellbeing.

Also this month, we publish the first in a new round of research summaries from third-year oral health science students at UHI. Yvonne Crichton researched domestic abuse and oral health in women. Any other DCP students in higher education are welcome to contact me if they are interested in publishing their work in BDJ Team.

Enjoy the bank holidays, happy reading, and see you again in May.
