Animals were injected with LPS (100 μg/kg, i.p.) at 24 h post-MCAO and levels of inflammatory markers were measured in cortex penumbra of the ischemic hemisphere (a) at 36 h post-MCAO by real-time PCR (be) or in the serum at 1, 2, 4, 7, and 10 days post-MCAO by ELISA (f, g). Results are presented as mean ± SEM (n = 4). Sham sham-operated rats, LPS LPS-treated rats, MCAO treatment-naive MCAO rats, MCAO+LPS LPS-treated MCAO rats, MCAO+LPS+LPS-RS LPS-treated and LPS-RS-treated MCAO rats. **p < 0.01 vs. treatment-naive MCAO controls, p < 0.05, ††p < 0.01, ##p < 0.01 between indicated groups
