Immunoblots of lysates obtained from human normal and OA cartilage probed with an antibody for α7-nAChRs, SLURP-1, Lynx1, Beclin-1, LC3-I/II, Bcl-2, Bax, or cleaved caspase-3, and β-actin as a loading control (A). In cartilage tissues of OA patients, the levels of pro-apoptotic protein Bax and cleaved caspase-3 were significantly increased, while those of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 and autophagy markers Beclin-1 and LC3-II were significantly reduced (B). The results shown represent mean ± SEM from four samples. In (B), **P < 0.01, *P < 0.05 versus normal tissues, using Student’s unpaired t test.
