Under conditions of HDS, increasing HP1a-mediated heterochromatin formation in tumor cells can decrease tumor burden and increase survival of tumor-bearing flies. Moreover, HDS reduces heterochromatin formation in tumor cells. Mechanistically, heterochromatin formation suppresses HDS-induced tumor progression by decreasing wingless expression and nuclear Yki accumulation, inducing apoptosis and maintaining genome stability.
