Once generated, the immune system dispatches various types of MBCs with unique purposes throughout the body. The figure illustrates the placement of these functionally specific MBCs in different anatomical locations to constitute multilayered protection against reinfection. Aside from these strategically positioned “sentinel” MBCs, “patrolling” MBCs recirculate and serially monitor the secondary lymphoid organs for antigen. Reproduced with permission.
